Announced FCC Voluntary Cybersecurity Labeling Program for Smart Devices

On 6 August 2023, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a draft proposal for a Voluntary Cybersecurity Labeling Program for Smart Devices to provide consumers with information regarding the cybersecurity measures the manufacturer of the device adopted to ensure its security. The "U.S. Cyber Trust Mark" shall help buyers make informed choices and encourage manufacturers to meet higher cybersecurity standards and reduce risks. If implemented, consumers could identify secure devices through the label and QR code, linking to a certified device database. The FCC aims to launch the program by late 2024. The public consultation will open after the proposal's publication in the Federal Register.
