On 11 April 2019, the Dutch Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) opened up an investigation into Apple in order to examine possible violations of competition law. Specifically, Apple is alleged to have abused its dominance in the app store market by giving preferential treatment to its own apps. Furthermore, the fact that the App Store is the only possibility for app developers to sell their apps, along with the mandatory commission fee that comes with that obligation, also poses a potential violation of competition law. The ACM is now asking app developers and providers to share their insight on the matter.
