On 14 February 2022, the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) announced another fine of EUR 5 million in response to Apple's proposed solution regarding dating apps' payment methods. Apple informed its dating app providers that if they wish to provide alternative payment methods, they should develop a new app, because existing apps in the app-store cannot be adjusted. The ACM considers this an unreasonable condition for app developers and finds Apple is still not complying with the ACM's requirements, resulting in a continuing fine of EUR 5 million per week. The ACM had previously ruled that Apple failed to meet the ACM's requirements regarding the payment system for dating-app providers, resulting in a periodic penalty of EUR 5 million every week, up to a maximum of EUR 50 million. In order to comply, Apple needs to change the terms of admission to the Dutch App Store for dating-app developers, to permit them to use payment methods other than Apple's payment mechanism in the App Store. Furthermore, dating-app providers must be able to relate to payment systems that are not part of the app.
