On 18 October 2022, the UK Government published and opened a consultation on the draft The Platform Operators (Due Diligence and Reporting Requirements) Regulations 2022, which aim to implement the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD’s) Model Reporting Rules for Digital Platforms based on feedback received through consultations held from 30 July to 22 October 2021. The draft regulations are directed at possible tax non-compliance in the online gig economy by online service providers or sellers by requiring platform operators to gather and share certain information about sellers with the tax authority. If implemented, the regulations will take effect from 1 January 2024 and the first reports by online platforms would be due on 31 January 2025. The draft regulations will be open for feedback until 13 December 2022.
