EU Commission publishes DSM Copyright proposal including new right for press publishers to remuneration

On 14 September 2016, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market. The proposal would introduce a new right for press publishers, giving them the option to claim remuneration for the use of their content by online platforms. Furthermore, the Directive specifies that the Member States should ensure that publishers can claim fair compensation.
