On 24 April 2024, the California Supreme Court denied the California Chamber of Commerce's petition for review. This follows the California Third District Court of Appeal's ruling in favour of the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) and California Attorney General Rob Bonta in the case initiated by the California Chamber of Commerce challenging the implementation of the California Privacy Rights Act Regulations. The Court ruled that the CPPA's authority to enforce its amended regulations should have taken effect on 1 July 2023, overturning a lower court decision. The court emphasised the importance of voter intent, stating that the text of Proposition 24 clearly intended to strengthen and protect consumers' privacy rights regarding the collection and use of their personal information.
