Implemented Regulation on the transparency and targeting of political advertising including non-discrimination requirement

On 9 April 2024, the definitions and measures regarding the fair provision of cross-border political advertising prohibiting the restriction based on nationality or location under Articles 3 and 5(1) of the Regulation on the transparency and targeting of political advertising entered into force. The regulation outlines transparency obligations concerning political advertising, including advertising displayed on online platforms, mobile applications, websites, games, and other digital interfaces. In particular, providers of political advertising services are prohibited from discriminating against sponsors residing or legally established in the Union based on where they reside or are established.
