On 28 March 2024, the Japanese Personal Information Protection Committee (PPC) issued an administrative response to LINE Yahoo, a communication application, regarding the leakage of personal information. The incident occurred when a computer used by an employee of a Korean company, a business contractor of LY Corporation, became infected with malware, leading to unauthorised access to LY Corporation's information system and resulting in leakage of personal data related to LINE. The PPC advised LY Corporation to take necessary measures to rectify this violation of Article 23 of the Personal Information Protection Act and requested a report on the implementation status of measures for preventing recurrence by April 26 2024.
