On 9 June 2023, the Danish Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) issued its ruling on GulogGratis' use of cookie walls, which requires users to either pay or consent to cookie tracking. Prior to this ruling, the DPA had found the usage to be lawful but required GulogGratis to demonstrate that its personal data processing for statistical purposes was lawful and in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements on voluntary consent. The DPA found that GulogGratis had not demonstrated that the processing of personal data for statistical purposes could be considered a necessary part of the alternative to pay.
