Japan: Opened Consultation on AI Business Guidelines

On 19 January 2024, the government of Japan opened a public consultation on the draft AI Business Guidelines until 19 February 2024. The guidelines, developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, aim to promote the safe and reliable use of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors. It provides a detailed framework for companies that develop, deploy, or use AI systems, outlining measures to mitigate risks while fostering innovation. The consultation will seek feedback on the proposed guidelines, which include specific requirements for AI developers, vendors, and users, as well as strategies for effective oversight and management of AI systems and services.
