Implemented Online Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act including new powers for Infocomm Media Development Authority

On 1 February 2023, the Singapore Online Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act, including new powers for the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), came into effect by determination of the Minister for Communications and Information. The Act gives the IMDA the power to designate online communication services providers as having a significant presence within the country and require them to comply with the Act's provisions as well as the Code of Practice. Furthermore, the IMDA now has the power to require online communication service providers to implement specific measures to reduce the users' exposure to content classified as harmful or illegal.
