China: Adopted Provisions on the Administration of Deep Synthesis of Internet Information Services including data protection

On 25 November 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Public Security adopted the Provisions on the Administration of Deep Synthesis of Internet Information Services including data protection regulations. The Regulation states that algorithm training datasets must follow personal information protection regulations. In addition, providers must remind users to notify and obtain the consent of any individual whose image or voice they may be manipulating. The Provisions will be implemented on 10 January 2023.
