ICT releases draft law including Data Protection standards

On 16 July 2022, the Bangladesh Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) released the draft of the Data Protection Act 2022. The draft outlines requirements regarding data collection, processing and user privacy standards. Firstly, the draft includes provisions specifying that data processing can only occur when the user has given explicit consent to the data being used. Secondly, the collection of sensitive data will be allowed for specific purposes. Thirdly, the collection of minors' personal data of minors will be permitted if explicit consent from their guardian is obtained. Finally, the draft outlines the individual's data rights, such as the right to access, correct and erase their data.
