Adopted AB 7865 including complaint mechanism requirement

On 2 June 2022, New York Senat adopted Assembly Bill A7865A requiring online platforms to establish a complaint mechanism. In particular, the Act defines hateful conduct and requires social media platforms operating in New York to provide and maintain a clear and easily accessible mechanism for users to report hateful content and conduct. According to the new provisions, the social media platforms that knowingly fail to comply with these requirements face a fine of USD 1000 per day.
