FTC announces potential rulemaking on privacy, cybersecurity and algorithmic bias

On 5 July 2022, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that it is considering new rulemakings under section 18 of the FTC Act, including rules concerning privacy, cybersecurity and unlawful discrimination through algorithmic decision-making. The abstract updates an earlier submission from 2021 and indicates that comments on this ANPR can be submitted until August 2022. Section 18 allows the FTC to designate acts as being unfair or deceptive commercial practices.
