On 10 January 2022, the Washington Data Privacy Act (SB 5062), concerning the management, oversight, and use of data was reintroduced. The Bill provides Washington citizens with consumer personal data rights such as access, correction, deletion, data portability, and the opportunity to opt out of certain types of personal data processing. Further, it identifies controllers' obligations such as data reduction, transparency, and purpose specification. Furthermore, the Bill regulates how data gathered for specific contact tracing purposes is processed and lays out under which scenarios data protection assessments must be completed by controllers. This act applies to legal entities doing business in Washington or producing products or services for Washington residents that control or process personal data of 100,000 or more consumers in a calendar year; or derive 25% of gross revenue from the sale of personal data and process or control personal data of 25,000 or more consumers.
