African Competition Authorities issue joint statement including commitments for cooperation

On 18 February 2022, the Competition Authorities of Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria and South Africa released a joint statement,committing to increasing cooperation in order to address the regulatory challenges that arise with the emergence of digital markets. In particular, the agencies noted that they will analyse the conduct of companies operating in digital markets that are under investigation in other jurisdictions. Furthermore, the agencies agreed to study and identify the barriers that African digital platforms encounter to promote more competition. Finally, the agencies will cooperate during the review process of regional mergers and acquisitions in digital markets.
