On 20 April 2024, the Protecting Americans' Data from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024 (HR 8038) was passed by the House of Representatives of the United States as part of the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act. The Act would prohibit data brokers from selling, renting, trading, transferring, or otherwise providing access to personally identifiable sensitive data of a US individual to foreign adversary countries or entities controlled by foreign adversaries.
