Published AP opinion on privacy risks of Facebook pages in relation to government communications

On 19 April 2024, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) issued an opinion to the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), advising on the discontinuation of Facebook pages by the government due to identified privacy risks. This advice follows a study conducted by the Ministry of BZK, which uncovered 7 high risks in data processing on government Facebook Pages. The AP advises against the government's continual use of Facebook pages unless the identified risks are addressed, although Meta has apparently not accepted doing this until this point.
