On 18 April 2024, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) concluded its investigation into illegal online gambling services that were operational around the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup period. The investigation reviewed 200 offshore services, identifying 21 that marketed their services to Australians. The ACMA stated that 18 were in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act for operating without a license in Australia and offering prohibited interactive gambling services, such as online casinos and slots or online in-play betting. Following the ACMA's notification, three services ceased their operations in Australia, while the websites of the remaining 15 were blocked by internet service providers upon ACMA's request.
