On 14 March 2023, Bill No. 2120089, amending the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), was signed into Law by the President of the Republic of Korea, becoming Law No. 19234. The Law would require overseas businesses processing personal data to designate a domestic agent for certain tasks related to privacy management, notification, reporting, and document submission. The overseas business would be required to provide the information on the designated domestic agent, including the agent's name, address, telephone number, and email address, in its Privacy Policy. The Law specifies that the thresholds and criteria that overseas businesses have to meet to be subject to this requirement will be established by Presidential Decree.
