On 23 July 2021, the EU Parliament published a Briefing on Artificial Intelligence in smart cities and urban mobility. The briefing highlights difficulties in implementing AI due to the availability of technology and data, the dependency on private third parties, ethical challenges and the difficulty of regulating interdependent infrastructures and data. The paper recommends EU-wide support for digital infrastructures, the inclusion of urban AI in EU research programs and the adoption of innovative procurement procedures.
