Republic of Korea: Adopted PIPC operating regulations for Prior Appropriateness Review System

On 27 March 2024, the Personal Information Protection Committee (PIPC) issued a notice announcing the adoption of operating regulations for Prior Appropriateness Review System. The system aims to assist business operators using AI and new technologies in the planning and development stage to comply with the Personal Information Protection Act. It involves the PIPC's detailed analysis of the processing environment and the preparation of measures to ensure compliance with the Act. The system also includes a confidentiality policy to protect the review results and restrict the use of data for other purposes. If the businesses implement the recommended measures, they will be exempted from any administrative sanctions.
