On 24 April 2024, the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) closed the public consultation on the draft resolution no. 61/24/CONS on the technical and process methods for ascertaining the age of the majority of users. The resolution implements the requirements outlined in the Decree-law n.123 on the safety of minors in the digital environment, which includes measures aimed at protecting minors from content that may harm their physical, mental, or moral development as well as generally ensuring an adequate level of safety proportional to the risk, minimising the personal data collected and respecting their confidentiality. The resolution includes the technical and process methods that video-sharing platforms must adopt to ascertain the age of the majority of users and restrict access to users under 18 years.
