Issued Statement in Second EU-Korea Digital Partnership Council

On 26 March 2024, the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) issued a statement on the second EU-Korea Digital Partnership Council. The partnership outlines the commitment to cooperate on emerging technologies for the sustainable advancement of both economies. The countries examined the progress since the first Council meeting and agreed on the continuous cooperation on semiconductors, 5G and beyond, quantum technology, platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), as well as cybersecurity, and other areas such as network connectivity. In particular, the EU and Korea agreed to increase their collaboration in the area of semiconductors through research and innovation initiatives as well as the EU-ROK Semiconductors Researchers Forum. Notably, the parties recognised the importance of the communication channel on AI, which was established in 2023 to establish a common approach and ensure the trustworthiness of generative AI.
