Introduced Protecting Consumers from Deceptive AI Act (HR 7766)

On 21 March 2024, the Protecting Consumers from Deceptive AI Act (HR 7766) was introduced to the House of Representatives of the United States. The Act aims to address the increased distribution of deepfakes, AI-generated audio and visual content designed to deceive by establishing standards for identifying and labelling AI-generated content. In addition, it mandates the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop standards for identifying and labelling AI-generated content, including watermarking. Furthermore, the Act requires generative AI developers and online platforms to provide disclosures on AI-generated content.
