Adopted UN Artificial Intelligence Resolution

On 21 March 2024, the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution concerning Artificial Intelligence (AI). The resolution aims to promote safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems to accelerate progress towards the full realisation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The resolution emphasises the importance of respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms throughout the life cycle of artificial intelligence systems while also encouraging the private sector to adhere to applicable international and domestic laws and act in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Further, the resolution calls on private entities to increase collaboration with the public sector and aid in the development of policymaking and other frameworks.
