Introduced Federal AI Governance and Transparency Act (HR 7532) including public procurement measures

On 5 March 2024, the Federal AI Governance and Transparency Act (HR 7532) was introduced in the House of Representatives. The Act governs the design, development, acquisition, use, management, and oversight of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Federal Government. It explicitly states that the use of AI in the Federal Government is permissible when it serves the public interest and the associated risks do not unjustly and disproportionately benefit or harm an individual or subgroup of the public. The Act further mandates a thorough assessment and responsible management of such risks. Under the Act, the Office of Management and Budget is required to issue guidance on the measures that providers have to meet to be contracted or collaborate with government agencies.
