Implemented Amendments to the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Development Basic Act (Law No. 20255)

On 14 February 2025, the amendments to the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Development Basic Act (Broadcasting and Communications Development Act/Law No. 20255) entered into force. The amendments establish technical standards for charging and data transmission methods of broadcasting and communication equipment, including mobile and smart devices. The amendment aims to prevent resource waste and enhance consumer convenience. Manufacturers of broadcasting and communication equipment are required to comply with technical standards. The Minister of Science and ICT has the authority to order corrective measures if the installed broadcasting and communication facilities fail to meet these standards. Violations of these orders may result in fines of up to KRW 10 million.
