France: Closed Consultation on Competition Authority Inquiry into competition in the Generative Artificial Intelligence Sector

On 22 March 2024, the Competition Authority closed the public consultation on its inquiry into competition in the generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector. According to the Authority, several digital companies currently control market entry points and adjoining markets. The Authority claims that these companies are seeking to consolidate their market power to exclude competing foundation models from the market, and their acquisitions are potentially harmful. Therefore, the Authority intends to issue an opinion on these consolidating tendencies in the AI sector and policy recommendations to address competition concerns.
