Closed Public Consultation in Inquiry on Economic and Competitive Regulation of Digital Platforms

On 18 March 2024, the Secretariat of Economic Reforms of the Ministry of Finance closed a public consultation on the economic and competitive regulation of digital platforms in Brazil. Recognising the increased importance of digital platforms for the economy and their influence on the organisation and dynamics of markets, the consultation aimed to gather contributions from interested stakeholders on whether changes should be made to the competition defence law, whether new regulation is necessary, which aspects should be subject to regulation, and how to coordinate state action for the management of the issue. The process included a detailed questionnaire, which sought to understand the economic and competitive reasons for a possible regulation of these platforms in Brazil. The results of the consultation will be available for public viewing.
