Cambodia: Signed Japan-Cambodia Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of unified QR code payment

On 18 December 2023, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and the National Bank of Cambodia signed a "Memorandum of Cooperation" (MoC) in the field of unified QR code payment. This is part of Japan's effort to realize a unified standard for QR code payment (JPQR) in Japan and enable interoperability with the unified standard for QR code payment in other Asian countries. Upon the signature and exchange of the MoC, expediting and implementing discussions regarding the interoperability of a unified QR code payment system between the two countries is anticipated to enhance the convenience of QR code payments domestically and internationally. This, in turn, is expected to boost tourism consumption.
