G7: Adopted G7 Joint Statement Regarding Enhanced IP Cooperation, Inclusion, and Digital Era Challenges

On 18 December 2023, the Group of Seven (G7) Intellectual Property Offices issued a statement following a meeting focused on enhancing international cooperation in intellectual property (IP). The parties emphasised the importance of a robust IP ecosystem for innovation and creativity, particularly in new digital contexts such as the metaverse. The parties addressed measures for promoting diversity and inclusion within IP systems, making them accessible to various societal segments, including underrepresented groups. They recognised the need for international cooperation in IP education and awareness, appreciating the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) contributions. The G7 offices committed to sharing practices for a more inclusive IP ecosystem and addressing IP enforcement and infringement challenges in digital spaces, including raising consumer awareness about counterfeiting and piracy risks.
