Closed UOKiK investigation into Amazon regarding subscription practices

On 6 December 2023, the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) closed the investigation into Amazon regarding its subscription practices. The UOKiK investigated Amazon Prime and Prime Video regarding their practice of charging higher prices by automatic payments without the consent of the users. The UOKiK investigated the subscription terms and conditions of Amazon and found that Amazon had procedures to unilaterally change the price and charge this for a new subscription period. The President of the UOKiK emphasises that new terms for the subscription should not be applied without the prior informed consent of the users. The investigation was closed at a preliminary investigation stage because of Amazon's cooperation with the UOKiK. Amazon EU and Amazon Digital UK agreed to inform their existing customers that the changes of the contractual terms will not be used.
