Republic of Korea: Signed UK- South Korea science and technology agreement including a commitment to cooperate on safe and responsible AI

On 22 November 2023, the United Kingdom and South Korean governments signed a science and technology agreement, including a commitment to cooperate on safe and responsible artificial intelligence (AI). The agreement, part of the broader Accord between the countries, aims to strengthen cooperation in critical technologies such as AI, quantum, semiconductors, and space. They include commitments to safe, responsible AI development in line with democratic values. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) setting out the collaboration in the area of AI and digital services. The collaboration aims to determine the use of AI in government services and share knowledge and best practices in its application and development.
