Australia: Announced ACCC investigation against Apple for abuse of dominance in the digital payment sector

On 19 August 2021, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced the need to investigate Apple for alleged abuse of dominance in the area of digital payments. Specifically, the investigation would revolve around the way Apple Pay limits bank access to iPhones. Said behaviour might represent a violation of the Australian abuse of dominance test pursuant to section 46 of the Competition and Consumer Act.
