Republic of Korea: Adopted MSIT Digital Rights Charter outlining principles for a global digital normative order

On 25 September 2023, the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced and published the MSIT Digital Rights Charter outlining principles for a global digital normative order. The document underscores the values and principles necessary for creating a "fair and just" "digital shared prosperity society." The charter consists of six chapters and 28 articles, and its principles span ensuring digital rights and freedoms, fair access to and equal distribution of digital society, ensuring digital safety and trust, promoting digital innovation, and enhancing digital welfare. The government's intentions include using it as a foundation for formulating future digital legislation, including a Digital Inclusion Act and Artificial Intelligence Act.
