ASEAN: Announced ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement

On 3 September 2023, ASEAN announced the launch of negotiations on a Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA). According to the press release, the ASEAN DEFA is intended to facilitate cross-border digital trade by improving digital rules in key areas such as digital trade, cross-border e-commerce, cybersecurity, digital ID, digital payments, cross-border data flows, and emerging topics like artificial intelligence.
