Issued MOC ruling blocking access to Telegram
On 6 August 2023, Iraq’s Ministry of Communications (MOC) announced it had issued an order blocking Telegram in the country. This measure was taken based on concerns over the protection of users’ personal data and national security. In particular, the Ministry expressed concerns over the amount of personal data that the app handles and potential leaks of data from official state institutions and the personal data of citizens.
