Implemented Cyberspace Administration measures outlined in special action to strengthen the management of "We-media"

On 10 July 2023, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) published thirteen measures, "we-media", including other online platforms displaying user-generated content, including news and information, are required to implement. These include reviewing account information to prevent counterfeiting, account verification, labelling controversial information and the source of relevant information, displaying the name of the information publisher, marking rumours, and limiting the number of accounts to one per person respectively, two per enterprise. Furthermore, the measures specify that the platforms are required to restrict the conditions for profit-making, cancelling illegal "self-media", removing followers gained due to violations, centralising the management of accounts, shutting down accounts that publish rumours, speculations or publish bad information, and finally publishing typical cases of illegal "self-media".
