Adopted agenda outlining proposals for EU-LAT Digital Alliance including cross-border data transfer measures

On 7 June 2023, the European Commission adopted a joint communication outlining a new agenda for relations between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean (EU–LAC). The agenda outlines the negotiation area to strengthen and modernise the strategic partnership between the two regions and lists key proposals. Further, it emphasises the potential benefits of additional collaboration between the two regions. The EU-LAC Digital Alliance aims to increase cooperation and bi-regional dialogue for an inclusive and human-centric digital transformation. In particular, the agenda notes that under the EU-LAC Digital Alliance, the parties will work on digital policies, including connectivity, regulatory dialogue, and free and safe data transfers.
