Announced MCI Advisory Guidelines on the Use of Personal Data in AI Systems under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)

On 9 May 2023, the Minister for Communications and Information (MCI) announced the issue of Advisory Guidelines on the Use of Personal Data in AI Systems under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). The announcement was made during the Parliament Sitting on 9 May 2023, and MCI stressed that it aims to support the responsible development and use of AI. As part of developing the guidelines, the MCI will examine the need for measures specifically addressing generative artificial intelligence following the release of ChatGPT and GPT-4. Furthermore, the MCI noted that the guidelines aim to guarantee data security and responsible data handling. The guidelines are expected to be issued by the end of 2023.
