On 8 January 2023, the European Standardisation Regulation entered into force with a grace period following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union on 19 December 2022. The Regulation establishes a framework for the adoption of European standards. The European Commission will be able to require the European Standardisation Organisations to develop standards in line with EU Regulations. Furthermore, the Regulation will enable the participation of representatives of national standardisation bodies in the decision-making processes. Finally, the Regulation will allow for the development of standards to facilitate the digital transition by ensuring that European products and services, such as batteries and artificial intelligence, comply with data protection and cybersecurity rules. The Regulation will be implemented on 9 July 2023.
