On 16 June 2023, the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) closed its consultation on the proposal to modify the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. The amendment would prohibit the use or disclosure of protected health information to investigate or prosecute patients, providers, and others involved in the provision of legal reproductive health care.
