Description

Adopted measures to combat alleged abuse of dominance regarding Oculus as part of ongoing investigation

On 23 November 2022, Meta announced that it would allow its virtual reality (VR) headsets to be used without a Facebook account. This step allows for Meta’s VR headsets to be sold again in Germany following an investigation by the German Competition Authority (Bundeskartellamt) on Facebook’s potential abuse of market power for making the use of VR headsets conditional on the creation of an account. As a response, Bundeskartellamt has now partly closed its investigation but will continue investigating the combination and processing of data stemming from Meta's services.
