Opened consultation on Privacy, Equity and Civil Rights

On 20 January 2023, the US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) opened a consultation titled "Privacy, Equity and Civil Rights", seeking responses on how commercial data practices may impose outsized harm on marginalized or underserved communities, which will close on 6 March 2023. The comments will be used by the NTIA in a report analysing whether and how commercial data practices can negatively affect marginalised or underserved communities, as well as how existing civil rights and privacy laws can be used to address privacy harms. The report is intended to inform future regulatory proposals.
