Announced investigation into Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal for listings violating quality standards

On 12 January 2023, the Indian Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to e-commerce companies Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal for the sale of toys in violation of legal quality standards, and therefore considered to be 'defective' by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The companies were given 7 days to respond, failing which legal action may be initiated against them. This action by the CCPA is stated to be part of its national campaign to prevent the sale of counterfeit or unsafe goods violating Quality Control Orders (QCOs) set by the Indian government.
