Introduced Bill prohibiting social media algorithms that target children in Senate (SB 3933)

On 14 March 2022, a Bill prohibiting social media algorithms that target children was introduced in the Minnesota Senate (SB 3933). The Bill includes a prohibition on social media platforms with more than 1'000'000 account holders operating in Minnesota from using a social media algorithm to target user-created content to minor account holders. The social media operator will be held liable to the account holder for any regular or special damages and faces a statutory penalty of USD 1'000 for each violation. The Bill is a companion bill to the previously introduced House Bill 3724.
