On 30 September 2022, the consultation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner on privacy regulation of biometrics in New Zealand closed. The consultation paper invited views on the uses, concerns and risks involved in the use of biometrics, relevant Māori cultural perspectives on identity and privacy, application of the Privacy Act to biometrics, and other aspects of regulatory measures on the collection, storage, use and disclosure of biometric information.
