Consultation opened on privacy regulation of biometrics in New Zealand

On 15 August 2022, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner published a Consultation paper on the privacy regulation of biometrics in New Zealand. The stakeholders are invited to submit comments on the uses, concerns, and risks involved in biometric technologies, relevant Māori cultural perspectives on identity and privacy, application of the Privacy Act to biometrics, and other aspects of regulatory measures on the collection, storage, use and disclosure of biometric information. The consultation paper is open for comments until 30 September 2022.
